Essays and extracurriculares are what I think stood out for me but mostly essays. Essays! Show your personality and don’t use it as an opportunity to repeat your resume. You should talk about something on your resume IF it there is a story to tell or if it was very important/formative to your journey.

It really depends and one really cannot make a blanket statement about most UCLA students. I would say that "open-minded" is probably a good term to use at the least. There is not the pretentiousness that comes with some preppy private schools (though maybe that's a myth) and there is not a huge party scene (unless you choose to do that).
