FYI. "One of the main faults with the early V10 engines (1999 – 2005) was that the spark plugs could blow out of the cylinder head. Ford used a cast iron engine block with an overhead cam aluminium cylinder head design, that uses centrally mounted spark plugs and waste spark ignition." Jun 1, 2024. #13.
Joined. Sep 30, 2009. Posts. 566. I have a 2004 Fleetwood MH with a Ford, Triton V10. The starting battery has the markings F06 which I believe indicates the battery is at least four years old. Last night the battery went out and i had to jump it to get the engine started. I was told by a friend the battery was past due for replacement.
The Ford v10 is coupled to a Ford transmission, 4, 5, or 6 speeds depending on the year. The GM 8.1L V8 is usually coupled to the Allison 1000 in pick-ups or Workhorse motorhome chassis, but in the van chassis used for Class C's I suppose it could be one of the car trannys. The "bullet-proof" Allisons are the big boy models like the 3000 and ...

Virginia. The 7.3L Ford engine replaces the V10 which is a good engine but fuel hungry, loud, and needs high revs to reach it best torque. The 7.3 was designed to have a lot of low rev torque similar to a diesel engine characteristics. It is also better on fuel consumption than the V10. May 24, 2021.
The 3-valve V10 is similar in horsepower to the 8.1L V8, but the V8 runs at lower rpms to produce it. Many people find that lower rpms (less noise) to be less stressful on the occupants. Or another way to look at it, some V10 owners are unwilling to utilize all the power it has available due to fear of high rpms and engine noise.
The V-10 is a high reving engine. If you are trying to keep your speed up, such as leaving the cruise control engaged, yep it is going to down shift and go up to 4000+ RPM. That is the design. The big GM V8 in some older RV's is designed differently, however GM stopped building RV chassis some years ago.

I have read in several places, unsubstantiated discussions on the Ford V10 oil viscosity, some of which claim that higher viscosity oil for this ...
The V10 is a solid, well engineered engine. Of course, things like the alternator and starter will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. However, as long as you do regular maintenance such as changing the oil at regular intervals and tuning up as needed, it should give you long term service. Jul 31, 2020. #4.
The best tank was 8.8 mpg when we were driving in Utah on state back roads at 45 to 50 mpg. Worst tank was 6.7 mpg going thru Oklahoma and Arkansas on freeways. So your mileage is about what we got on the Ford V10 with a similar coach. Nov 17, 2009. #5.
