La Luz de Jesus Gallery was established in 1986 in Los Angeles, California by entrepreneur and art collector Billy Shire.The original gallery was located in a bright pink building on Melrose Avenue, upstairs from Shire's retail store Soap Plant / Wacko.
The Soap Plant sells a large variety of soaps, oils, and lotions. They are all hand-made. Wacko mainly sells pop culture toys and miscellaneous products but also has one of the largest collections of postcards in Los Angeles. Mapping L.A. is a project of the Los Angeles Times, beginning in 2009, to draw boundary lines for 158 cities and unincorporated places within Los Angeles County, California. It identified 114 neighborhoods within the City of Los Angeles and 42 unincorporated areas where the statistics were merged with those of adjacent cities. [1]
The high school was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ). It opened its doors on September 14, 1964, and was dedicated on May 5, 1967, by Cardinal James McIntyre who had asked the CSJ to open a school for girls in Lakewood.
