Robert E. Lee High School was established in 1928, during the Jim Crow-era, and named in honor of Robert E. Lee, the military commander of the Confedererate Army. [3] It opened as a segregated school for white students; Mexican students were not allowed until later while Black students were not allowed to attend until the Fall of 1967. [3]

The school originally opened its doors in 1961, seven years before the city’s high schools integrated. [4] In October 2020, the Midland school board voted to rename the school "Legacy High School". [5] The Midland ISD board vote to rename had six board members voting for, and one voting against the school's name change.
All three schools are in the Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The stadium holds 16,500 people and opened in 1969 when Memorial Stadium (now Sultis Stadium) on the Robert E.
