St Margaret's Church, Carsington, is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England [3] in Carsington, Derbyshire. History.
St. Luke's was founded in 1892, in Allston, which was then a rapidly growing white-collar neighborhood. It was the only parish in the diocese founded under Bishop Phillips Brooks, the famous preacher and author of O Little Town of Bethlehem. An initial church building was built in 1895, at the corner or Brighton Avenue and St. Luke's Road.
The work of organization was given to Rev. S. P. Weisinger on June 13, 1898, who prosecuted it with so much success that a little over a year later the new Church of St. John the Evangelist on Ohio avenue was completed and was dedicated on September 24 by Monsignor Specht, V. G. A residence for the pastor was completed at the same time.
The first Mass held at St. Margaret Mary was celebrated in the new church on December 28, 1924. The church was dedicated by Bishop Patrick Barry on January 30, 1927. In 2005, St. Margaret's Parish dedicated a new 450-seat church building near the old building. Due to changes in church leadership and a steadily declining membership, St. Margaret's Church closed its doors in the Spring of 2012. The chapel can now be toured and the main church is being leased by First Assembly of God Fleming Island. [6]
