Baghban (transl. Gardener) is a 2003 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Ravi Chopra, co-written and produced by B. R. Chopra. It tells the story of an elderly couple, Raj ( Amitabh Bachchan ) and Pooja ( Hema Malini ), who have been married for 40 years.
Baghban was the last unofficial partnership between the legendary Salim–Javed screenwriter duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Amitabh Bachchan requested that Javed Akhtar write his final speech in the movie. Salman Khan, requested his father Salim Khan to write his speech in the movie. Neither Salim Khan nor Javed Akhtar were credited. [4]
The movie was produced by Jai Jagadish for Dakshath Combines. The film is a remake of Hindi film Baghban (2003) which was an unofficial adaptation of the 1937 Hollywood movie Make Way for Tomorrow which had earlier inspired the 1958 Kannada movie School Master.
