Humboldt County (/ ˈ h ʌ m b oʊ l t / ⓘ) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 136,463. [7] The county seat is Eureka. [8] Humboldt County comprises the Eureka–Arcata–Fortuna, California, Micropolitan Statistical Area.
It provides a location for small planes to make emergency landings, since the other Humboldt County airports at lower elevations often become fog bound before Kneeland. [4] The airport also hosts a helitack base for the Cal Fire Humboldt-Del Norte unit. [12] The Kneeland Volunteer Fire Department was founded in the early 1980s.
Scotia, formerly known as Forestville until 1888, is a census-designated place in Humboldt County, California. [5] [6] [2] It is located on the Eel River along U.S. Route 101, 8.5 miles (13.7 km) southeast of Fortuna and 244 miles (393 km) north of San Francisco. [5] Scotia has a population of 850 (2010 census).
