From 2005 to 2015 the Tour de l'Eurométropole was a 2.1-ranked stage race of the UCI Europe Tour. [1] The race joined the UCI ProSeries as a 1.Pro event in 2021. Since 2016, the event has transformed from a stage race to a single day 1.1 race and was included in the inaugural Belgian Road Cycling Cup .
The race was first run in 1945 from Sint-Truiden to Waregem and was named Dwars door België (English: Across Belgium) – a name it kept until 1999. Belgian cycling icon Rik Van Steenbergen won the inaugural race. From 1946 to 1964 the event was run as a stage race over two days – with the exception of 1948.
The Belgian National Cyclo-cross Championships were first held in 1910, and have been held annually since 1921 (with a break in 1940 due to World War II) by the Royal Belgian Cycling Federation (KBWB/RLVB). [1]
