The Sri Lankan Advanced Level (A-level), formerly known as the Higher School Certificate (HSC), is a General Certificate of Education (GCE) qualification exam in Sri Lanka, similar to the British Advanced Level. It is conducted annually by the Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education.

The Advanced Level education was introduced to this school in 1970 and it was the arts stream. In 1979, the other streams of the Advanced Level such as Science, Maths and Commerce were initiated. St. Cecilia's girls' College was upgraded as a National School in 2001. The bilingual education was commenced here in 2002.
In ordinary level students sit for nine core subjects and three optional subjects. Advanced Level students are offered three compulsory subjects in four streams namely Biological Science, Physical Science, Commerce and Arts. A pass in the common general paper is compulsory to enter the university. IT and General English are offered.
It has been graded as 1AB Super School by Ministry of Education Sri Lanka and it has all the streams of GCE Advanced Level in Sri Lanka - Biological and Physical science, Commerce, Arts and Technology. Shams Central College is a public school located in Maruthamunai, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The school provides both primary and secondary education from Grade 6 to Advanced Level, all streams including Arts, Commerce, Bio, Maths and Technical Streams.
