Tenkiller Ferry Lake, or more simply, Lake Tenkiller, is a reservoir in eastern Oklahoma formed by the damming of the Illinois River.The earth-fill dam was constructed between 1947 and 1952 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for purposes of flood control, hydroelectric power generation, water supply and recreation.

Cherokee Landing State Park is a 146-acre (0.59 km 2) Oklahoma state park located in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.It is located near Park Hill, Oklahoma on a peninsula jutting into Lake Tenkiller in the Cookson Hills, south of Tahlequah.
The park adjoins Lake Tenkiller, which is the sixth-largest reservoir in Oklahoma, based on normal water capacity. An area of 2,590-acre (10.5 km 2 ), abutting the park on the west, comprises the Tenkiller Wildlife Management Area, and is licensed to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for a state game management and hunting area.
Caney Creek is a watercourse in Adair County and Cherokee County in Oklahoma. [1] [2] It forms just southeast of Stilwell and travels on an arc generally northwest, west, and then southwest before emptying into Tenkiller Ferry Lake on the Illinois River east of Pettit.
It empties into the main branch of the Illinois River near the community of Welling, Oklahoma, just upstream of Lake Tenkiller. [5] [6] The stream drains an area of 1,660 square miles (4,300 km 2) in the two states and is said to be the largest contributor to Oklahoma's Lake Tenkiller. [7]
Tenkiller is located in southeastern Cherokee County. It is bordered to the north by Welling, to the west across the Illinois River by Park Hill and Keys, and to the east by Rocky Mountain in Adair County. The community of Dry Creek is a short distance to the south. Tahlequah, the county seat, is 13 miles (21 km) to the northwest via Welling Road.
