Vivo TV is a Brazilian pay television provider, owned by the Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica, through its subsidiary in the country, Vivo. It provides digital cable , satellite and IPTV services.
In October 2014, the company was acquired by Spain's Telefónica, owner of Vivo, for R$ 21.9 billion. The company's merger was approved by Anatel in January 2015 and by Cade in February of the same year, however, with restrictions [8]. On 15 June 2015, it was announced that GVT TV was acquired by Telefónica and now uses the Vivo TV brand.
GVT TV was created with the intention to fight for satellite TV leadership with big Brazilian operators such as Sky Brazil and Via Embratel, which use the same satellite television technology. [ 3 ] It was shut down in 2016 when GVT's parent company, Telefónica , retired the GVT brand in place of the Vivo brand.
