The 1986 Memphis Tigers football team represented Memphis State University (now known as the University of Memphis) in the 1986 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team was led by head coach Charlie Bailey. The Tigers played their home games at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
In the first game that the trophy was on the line, the Razorbacks won 28–3. The Tigers captured the trophy for the first time in 2016, overcoming a 24–7 halftime deficit to win 28–24 in Columbia. In 2017 the Tigers kept the trophy winning 48–45 on a last second 19-yard field goal by kicker Tucker McCann.
