"That's All It Took" is a song written by George Jones, Darrell Edwards, and Charlotte Lynn Grier and originally recorded by Jones as a duet with Gene Pitney [citation needed] on Musicor Records. Jones and Pitney had scored a Top 20 hit in 1965 with " I've Got Five Dollars and It's Saturday Night " and also recorded two LPs together.
The song pulls on the same heartstrings as Jones' biggest hit, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," complete with Billy Sherrill's sweeping production and a recitation recounting the protagonist's funeral. Jones also made his second music video for the song, the first having been " Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes ."
The album provides an opportunity to hear how an older Jones and producer Billy Sherrill reinterpret the material. Sherrill remains faithful to the original arrangements, although the songs certainly have a smoother sound than some of the original versions.
