It is located in Reno, Nevada at the intersection of North Virginia Street and 15th Street on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. It is named after former athletic director, baseball, basketball and football coach Jake Lawlor. It was built in 1983 and has a capacity of 12,000 including 11,536 multi-purpose seats.
Cox Pavilion is a 78,300-square-foot (7,270 m 2), multi-purpose indoor arena on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, connected to the Thomas & Mack Center.The Pavilion serves as the home court for UNLV Lady Rebels women's basketball and volleyball programs as well as the annual NBA Summer League.
The following is a list of arenas ordered by seating capacity, which is the maximum number of seated spectators the arena can accommodate for a sports event. Only the capacity for indoor sports, such as basketball, ice hockey, and volleyball, are included. Currently all arenas with a capacity of 15,000 or more are included.
The center's primary tenant is the UNLV men's basketball team since 1983. The arena was nicknamed "the Shark Tank" after UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian , whose nickname was Tark the Shark.
