Union College is a private liberal arts college in Schenectady, New York, United States. Founded in 1795, it was the first institution of higher learning chartered by the New York State Board of Regents , and second in the state of New York, after Columbia College .
Prior to 2023, the college's teams were known as the "Dutchmen" and "Dutchwomen." [2] The nickname was changed to "Garnet Chargers" as part of a branding update. [2]Garnet has been the school's official color for 150 years, and the name "chargers" is a reference to "Schenectady’s legacy as a leader in electrical technologies."
