The Prairie du Sac Dam is the widest dam on the Wisconsin River [11] and has a generation capacity of about 31 MW. [13] The dam has a hollow concrete structure and is anchored to the sandy riverbed by a pile foundation. The hydroelectric power station is a 330-foot-long (100 m), three story red brick structure at the west end of the dam.
The Kilbourn Dam was the first major hydroelectric station on the Wisconsin River. [3] It was named for its location in the city of Kilbourn , which changed its name to Wisconsin Dells in 1931. The Saint Croix Falls Dam is a concrete hybrid arch-gravity dam with an S-shaped spillway and an integral hydroelectric power station. The main arch is 675 feet (206 m) long and the power station is 291 feet (89 m), located on the east side of the river in Wisconsin.
