Considered a newer species and referred to commercially as Labidochromis tanganicae, this cichlid lives in the waters of Lake Malawi between the islands of Charo and Mbowe. First displayed at Burundi in the early 1980s and exported from there, the electric yellow was mistakenly believed to come from Lake Tanganyika.

The pearl of Likoma (Labidochromis joanjohnsonae) is a species of fish in the family Cichlidae endemic to Lake Malawi where it is native to rocky areas around Likoma Island and it has been introduced to Thumbi West Island. [2] This species can reach a length of 10 centimetres (3.9 in) TL. It can also be found in the aquarium trade. [3]
