Bill, I would recommend 1/4" tempered glass, was told by my supplier if it can fall unimpeded tempered. The glass shop you choose should be able to supply it with a polished edge.

I think you need to have a braced wall section on the opposite side of the window opening at least 24" wide and continue the window header to fully extend over that braced wall section. Add some Simpson staps and a crap load of nails in the plywood.

I'm using Andersen Woodwrights with all green exterior. The closest match I can get coil wise is an Evergreen in Alcoa, but that is still a little light.

Simply cut the nail flange at intervals that will lend itself to the radious. The last one I did was on a 28" wide window and I cut the nail flange at 3/4" intervals and left the front edge intact.
