Wide Bay–Burnett is a region of the Australian state of Queensland, located between 170–400 km (110–250 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. The area's population growth has exceeded the state average over the past 20 years, and it is forecast to grow to more than 430,000 by 2031.
The Auburn River rises in the hills about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Cracow, flows south before swinging to the north-east at its confluence with Johnson Creek, passing through the Auburn River National Park, a little-known and untouched piece of pristine bush including Auburn Waterfall, and flows into the Burnett River west of Mundubbera.
The town is in the Wide Bay–Burnett region on the Burnett Highway, 363 kilometres (226 mi) north west of the state capital, Brisbane, 209 kilometres (130 mi) north of Dalby and 200 kilometres (120 mi) west of the regional centre, Bundaberg.
