A banana connector (commonly banana plug for the male, banana jack (or socket) for the female) is a single-wire (one conductor) electrical connector used for joining wires to equipment. The term 4 mm connector is also used, especially in Europe, although not all banana connectors will mate with 4 mm parts, and 2 mm banana connectors exist.
Dimensions are different - you cannot put a banana plug into a 3.5 mm phone jack and though it might go into a 1/4 inch phone jack it will not be secure or useful. Banana plugs are typically used on test and measurement equipment, and can often handle a few amps or a couple hundred volts, useful for measuring current or voltage in circuits.
The male plug's mating shell outer diameter is 10 mm (0.39 in), and the pins are 1.5 mm (0.059 in) diameter; Standard may include a limit of 20 V at 7.5 amperes [5] Sometimes, there's a knurled retaining ring surrounding the male plug which allows fastening the plug to the chassis receiving the power.

The M12 connector, specified in IEC 61076-2-101, is a circular electrical plug/receptacle pair with 12mm OD mating threads, used in NMEA 2000, DeviceNet, IO-Link, some kinds of Industrial Ethernet, etc. [16] [17]
The normal technical term (in both British and International English) for an AC power socket is socket-outlet, [4] but in non-technical common use a number of other terms are used. In British English the general term is socket, but there are numerous common alternatives, including power point, [5] plug socket, [6] wall socket, [7] and wall plug ...
