Marigold Lodge is located on a 7 + 1 ⁄ 2-acre peninsula which projects into Lake Macatawa. The main house is a two-story Prairie School structure with dark wood and stucco facades. The property also includes a guest house, as gazebo, and other modern structures. The main house has been converted into a visitor's center and hotel by Herman Miller.
The railroad constructed the Hotel Ottawa, and Association members gradually began constructing cottages on the lots. The first cottage was built in 1887–88, and by 1890 about twenty cottages were built. [2] In addition to Association members, the resort attracted summer boarders at the hotel, as well as day trippers visiting the beach itself.
