Brunei–Muara District (Malay: Daerah Brunei–Muara; Jawi: دايره بروني موارا) or simply known as Brunei–Muara (BROO-nei moo-WAH-rah), [5] is the smallest as well as the most populated district in Brunei. [6] It has an area of 571 square kilometres (220 sq mi) and the population of 318,530 as of 2021.
Although Muara in Brunei-Muara District and Bangar, the capital of Temburong District, are officially known in Malay as Pekan Muara and Pekan Bangar (literally 'Muara Town' and 'Bangar Town'), they do not have municipal status but instead administered as village-level subdivisions.
Brunei is divided into four districts (daerah), namely Brunei Muara, Belait, Tutong and Temburong. Each district is divided into several mukims. Altogether there are 39 mukims in Brunei. Each mukim encompasses several villages (kampung or kampong). [1] The following is a list of villages in Brunei.
