I borrowed a S&W from a friend to test drive. It had a scope and the front A2 sight cut off. It was a (literal) pain in the neck to get my eye into position for the scope, so you may want to figure out how high you want the scope first. It is possible that you may want scope mounts that put the sight line above the front sight entirely.
I bought a leupold vxr 2-7x and the adm recon mount, which is a cantilever style that adds 2" of eye relief. This is too much when the scope is zoomed to 7x. I'm disappointed because I was finally gonna get my rifle sighted in. I bought this from primary arms and I'm not sure they'll let me exchange for a regular mount.
New to the sight, besides a couple of purchases. A few months ago I decided to give service rifle a try, bought a white oak a4 service rifle upper with mk7 rail , the giessele mount you’re asking about, and the hi lux scope. Great setup btw. The mount Is rock solid. Have only had the woa upper to the range once to zero and test it at 200y.

Vertical split rings are mounted much different than horizontally split rings. To mount a scope in vertical splits, you'll place the scope in the rings and tighten the bottoms to 18-20 inch pounds (yes, this is a bit higher than we normally recommend. But, keep reading). Then, you'll move to the top and tighten that to about the usual 16 inch ...
Yes, the mount is in a scout configuration, with an eye relief of 6" to 10"-12" depending on your preference. The scout scope allows for rapid target acquisition, quite fitting for these battle rifles, but also works quite well for longer ranges. Red dot optics will also work quite well.
I really like my RRA Cantilevered Scope Mount. The large knurled knobs make it easy to to remove and re-install on the rifle. Zero has always been perfectly maintained after taking the mount off and then putting it back on. For me the height is just right for the standard nose to charging handle aiming position. Well worth the price.

From the listing "Designed to withstand the heaviest recoil - Our LT107 QD scope mount was designed by request for the U.S. Army M107 Military Long Range Sniper Rifle LRSR.50 Cal. We built-in 30 minutes of slope to get the most out of the scope's "come-ups".
Because of the long eye relief an extended mount is required in to not bridge the gap between handguard and upper receiver. Personally I don’t have much concern over some overlap with a high quality mount. . Not a fan of the look of these extended mounts Leap and KDG are at the top of my list Like 1.5” high mounts Leap 5.6oz, tool less removal
