The original Seminary was located at 352 Collins Street in Hartford, in what was once the Chinese College. It opened its doors on September 7, 1897. During his 14-year-long tenure, Tierney founded St. Thomas Seminary; St. Mary's Home for the Aged; St. John's Industrial School; the hospitals at Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Waterbury, and Willimantic; and numerous charitable institutions conducted by the Sisters of the Holy Ghost and the Little Sisters of the Poor. Macaluso later became a professor of philosophy at St. Thomas Seminary. In 1980, he was appointed dean of the seminary and rector in 1985. [1] While serving as rector, Macaluso was also assigned as a weekend assistant pastor at St. Francis Parish in Torrington, Connecticut, and Sacred Heart Parish in Bloomfield, Connecticut. [1]
