On May 14, 2014, Uno expanded its operations in Central America through a joint venture with Danish firm Endofa.

El Palmar is mostly an agricultural municipality, with coffee being one of its main products. Many years ago, El Palmar was nearly destroyed by a volcanic eruption of the Santiaguito volcano. Nuevo El Palmar was founded a few kilometers away where most people re-settled. Some inhabitants chose to stay or go back to the original town.
Many of the names of the municipalities of Guatemala consist of one of two things: the name of a catholic saint to worship the day the city was founded or a description with Náhuatl [3] roots. These influences are due to the troops in command of Pedro de Alvarado [4] who invaded the region in 1520.
