State Route 26 (SR 26) is a 271.1-mile-long (436.3 km) state highway that travels west-to-east through portions of Chattahoochee, Marion, Schley, Macon, Houston, Pulaski, Bleckley, Laurens, Johnson, Emanuel, Bulloch, Bryan, Effingham, and Chatham counties through the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia.
From its founding in 1847, Atlanta has had a penchant for frequent street renamings, even in the central business district, usually to honor the recently deceased.As early as 1903 (see section below), there were concerns about the confusion this caused, as "more than 225 streets of Atlanta have had from two to eight names" in the first decades of the city.

[1] Atlanta has a reputation for bad traffic and has been ranked among the worst cities for commuters. [12]
Like its parent route, however, it joins the alternate in another concurrency. US 27 Alt./US 29/SR 14 serves as the main road through downtown Moreland, and, after passing by the Lewis Grizzard Museum, [2] the Atlanta and West Point Railroad (AWP) main line moves to the west side of the road at a powerline right-of-way.
