Fort Wilkins Historic State Park is a historic preservation and public recreation area operated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources at Copper Harbor, Michigan. [3] The park preserves the restored 1844 army military outpost, Fort Wilkins , which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. [ 4 ]
The route carries the designation of the Copper Country Trail National Scenic Byway between Hancock and Copper Harbor. The trunkline ends at a cul-de-sac east of Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor. [10] [11] Along its route, US 41 passes through farm fields, forest lands, and along the Lake Superior shoreline.
One such bridge was constructed by the Keweenaw County Road Commission, just east of Copper Harbor near the northern terminus of the trunkline. (The Keweenaw County Road Commission also built the M-26–Silver River Culvert [3] and the M-26–Cedar Creek Culvert [4] around the same time.) The original cost of the bridge was $8,132.02.
