Super Thermal Power Stations or Super Power Station are a series of ambitious power projects planned by the Government of India. With India being a country of chronic power deficits, the Government of India has planned to provide 'power for all' by the end of the eleventh plan. The capacity of thermal power is 1000 MW and above.

NTPC Kawas is located at Aditya Nagar, Hazira in Surat district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The power plant is the gas-based combined cycle power plants of NTPC. The gas for the power plant is sourced from GAIL HBJ Pipeline – South Basin Gas field. Source of water for the power plant is Hazira Branch Canal Singanpur Weir. [1] [2]
Kachchh Lignite Thermal Power Station is located near Panadhro village in Lakhpat Taluka, Kutch district, Gujarat, India. The plant is adjacent of lignite mines (operated by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation) and receives lignite direct from the mines. There are four units presently in operation.
The first of these privately run “Ultra Mega Power Projects” would front the Gulf of Kutch, near the town of Mundra in Gujarat. Tata Power, part of a $100 billion conglomerate that produces everything from Tetley Tea to Jaguar sports cars, won the contract to build and operate the plant.
The first power plant at this site became operational in 1934 with installed capacity of 37.5 MW (2x3.75MW and 4x7.5MW). [1] In the place of original power plant, new power plant came up with installed capacity of 422 MW (1x60MW, 1x120 MW and 2x121MW).
