The University of Southern Mindanao (USM; Filipino: Pamantasan ng Dakong Timog ng Mindanao [4]), formerly Mindanao Institute of Technology (MIT), is a university in the Southern Philippines. It provides instruction and professional training in the fields of science and technology, particularly agriculture and industry.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, many USM students expressed a desire for the holiday. The university is near New Orleans and has ties to Biloxi and Mobile, where Mardi Gras is also celebrated. In 1981, Ken Stribling, president of USM's student body, organized a student drive to establish an annual holiday on Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras).
The USM has about 350 part and full-time students, and more than 800 alumni. Its president is currently Dr. Antonio Carmona Baez Dr. Antonio Carmona Baez. USM was established in 1989 by Dr. Albert Claudius Wathey and Ambassador Dr. Hushang Ansary as an annex of Johnson & Wales University.
The Art Gallery is located at the southern edge of the USM Gorham campus, at the northeast corner of University Way and College Avenue, west of the Gorham town center. It is a rectangular wood-frame structure, about 42 by 60 feet (13 m × 18 m), with a front-facing gable roof, clapboard siding, and a stone foundation.
In the administration building, an area referred to by USM students and staff as "The Dome" can be found directly ahead, when entering campus from the Hardy Street main entrance. The Dome of the administration building is prominently featured on the Southern Miss seal, and is the official logo of the university in its non-athletic entity. [3]
