This may explain why the booklet reffers to some sizes as ANC and some as UNC Plugwash 17:05, 12 April 2011 (UTC) I agree that the "origins" section should be expanded a bit. The Unified Thread Standard was derived from the United States Standard and the SAE standards and it only takes about one sentence to explain that much.
A common tex number for general sewing thread is tex 25 or tex 30. A slightly heavier silk buttonhole thread suitable for bartacking, small leather items, and decorative seams might be tex 40.
