The University of Ceylon was the only university in Sri Lanka (earlier Ceylon) from 1942 until 1972. It had several constituent campuses at various locations around Sri Lanka. The University of Ceylon Act No. 1 of 1972, replaced it with the University of Sri Lanka which existed from 1973 to 1978.
Thanthirimale (also spelled as Tantirimale) is an old village in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka. It is located approximately 40 km northwest of the Anuradhapura city. The Hardy Advanced Technological Institute [5] is located in Ampara, Sri Lanka. [6] Founded in 1956 by Prof. Allen Hardy as the Technical Training Institute with aid from the Colombo Plan, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Asia Foundation, it was renamed as Hardy Senior Technical Institute (HSTI) in 1967. [7]
Soon after in 1950 the engineering courses were transferred to the newly established Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ceylon. Junior Technical Colleges were established in Galle, Kandy, Jaffna in the 1950s. In 1966 the engineering technicians courses were transferred to the Institute of Practical Technology.
The North Central province is home to the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, both of which were historical capitals of Sri Lanka during ancient times. The two cities were the capitals of the Anuradhapura kingdom (437 BCE–1017 CE) and the Polonnaruwa kingdom (1070–1232) respectively.
