The L series was a complete range of trucks introduced in late 1949. The first new trucks since the war-era D/K/KB models, they introduced a cab with a one-piece curved windshield that continued in service until 1971. They were also the first trucks with the Raymond Loewy "IH" insignia that was used into the 1970s.
1980s: DAF trucks started competing in the Dakar Rally, winning in 1982, 1985 and 1987. In the later years, they competed with a twin engine trucks: the 1986 TurboTwin, the 1987 TurboTwin II and the 1988 X1. The later producing a combined power output of 1,220 PS (900 kW). 1988: Two trucks were entered into the Paris-Dakar rally: the X1 and X2.
