Corvallis (/ k ɔːr ˈ v æ l ɪ s / kor-VAL-iss) is a city in and the county seat of Benton County in central western Oregon, United States. [6] It is the principal city of the Corvallis, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Benton County.
Benton County was created on December 23, 1847, by an act of the Provisional Government of Oregon. [3] The county was named after Democratic Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri, an advocate of the doctrine of Manifest Destiny and the belief that the American government should control the whole of the Oregon Country.
The Benton County Courthouse is a courthouse building located in Corvallis, Benton County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. Built in 1888, the facility is regarded as the oldest county courthouse in Oregon still being used for its original purpose. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [2]
