Millett's first marriage, to Virginia Young, ended in divorce. During the festivities surrounding his Medal of Honor award in 1951, he met Winona Williams. They later married and had four children: Lewis Lee Jr., Timothy, John, and Elizabeth. By the time of Winona Millett's death in 1993, the couple had been married over 40 years. [2]

Charles Lilburn Lewis was the oldest of eight children born to Colonel Charles Lewis of Buck Island [a] and Mary Randolph. His maternal aunt, Jane Randolph Jefferson, was the mother of United States President Thomas Jefferson. [2] [4] The Lewis family were among the wealthy plantation and slave–owning class. [5]

Heath was born 23 November 1885, the son of Col. Lewis Forbes Heath of the British Indian Army. [2] He was educated at Wellington College and Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He joined the British Indian Army in 1905. [1] [3] In 1915, Heath married Marjorie, daughter of Brigadier General A. B. H. Drew, and had three sons and two daughters.
John Thomas Lewis Preston (April 25, 1811 – July 15, 1890) was an American educator and military officer from Virginia. He was a primary founder and organizer of the Virginia Military Institute, and was one of its first two faculty members.
