Garforth House in 2008. Garforth House is a grade I listed building in York, England.. The house lies at 54 Micklegate, in the city centre.The site was occupied by two tenements in early-18th century, one of which was purchased by William Garforth, and the other by his nephew, Edmund Garforth.
After the Greys bought it they built an addition on the roof for a studio and library. After the Greys' death, their sons owned the property. The grounds were divided up and neighboring houses were built on them. The house was sold by their son, Romer, in 1970. [2] The house went up for sale again in 2020. [3]

Grey Gardens is a 14-room [1] house at 3 West End Road and Lily Pond Lane in the Georgica Pond neighborhood of East Hampton, New York. It was the residence of the Beale family from 1924 to 1979, including mother and daughter Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale from 1952 to 1977.
The place-name Garforth appears first in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Gereford and Gereforde, with gar-spellings first appearing in 1336 in the form Garford. [3] [4] The name seems to derive from the Norse words gāra ('triangular plot of land', derived from the word gār, 'spear') and ford ('ford)', and thus meant 'ford at a triangular plot of land'.
