The world of sports cars is absolutely insane right now, obviously. Finding a vehicle under $30k right now, you used to be able to find under $15k in certain cases. What is the absolute best FUN vehicle you can buy under $30k right now? JDM, muscle, whatever. Obvious answers are the 86/BRZ, Miata, etc. Bonus points for saying something else lol.
Depending on area you may be able to find a 440i or m240i. You didn't say new or used but here's a pretty good article from Car Gurus (applies if you're in the states). Might give you some ideas. Miata is the obvious answer. Nissan 350/370z. FRS/BRZ. if you compromise on the age you could swing a Porsche car. You can get a C6 vette if you play your cards right. If you don’t want a true blue sports car but just something fun there’s always the WRX STi and other hot hatches.
Or at least close to it. Noted. Thank you! For a new car, the Veloster N is excellent for 30k. GTIs are great if it's a daily and you want some more practicality and a little more refinement. If you want RWD, a mustang EcoBoost is surprisingly fun and nice inside, and you can find a 2020 new for around 30k.
2 seat, rwd, independent suspension, available in convertible. Thats the basic recipe for traditional sports cars. Corvettes, vipers, s2000s, boxster, miata, etc. Those are all sports cars. An M3, while it might be faster on a track than some sports cars, or even feel better than some sports cars, is a GT by definition. Same with muscle cars.
The two issues with a sports car under 30k, is maintenance costs (turbos going bad, drive train if you treat it bad… etc) and the immense amount of money you are going to spend on gasoline (premium) and getting 16-20 mpg. At least 60 dollars a week in fuel. These cars used were going for 50-60k new, so parts are going to be expensive.
you could look into 2011-14 RT and SRT8 models, I’ve seen used listings under 30k. RT has the 5.7L hemi, SRT8 has the 6.4L hemi. 2011-14 gen uses a 5 speed auto transmission, i think there was a manual option but don’t know too much abt it. interior & tech aren’t great compared to newer models. 3. Autozam AZ1s are around 30k. Fun, rare, and interesting. Assuming you fit inside. 987 boxster/cayman. Like the Miata it’s not super interesting but is very fun. Z4 M coupes are pretty uncommon. Fun to drive too. VW things are super interesting and fun, although not because of their driving dynamics.
Available in RWD and AWD, 7 speed auto, 400hp stock, and all under a CPO warranty for 30k otd. The aftermarket for these is very good and is growing a lot since the VR30 is being placed in the new Zs. The twin turbo v6 is a lot of fun on the highway and back roads. It is a lot of fun and a really practical midsize sedan.
