The Yoga Sutras of Patañjali (IAST: Patañjali yoga-sūtras) is a collection of Sanskrit sutras on the theory and practice of yoga – 195 sutras (according to Vyāsa and Krishnamacharya) and 196 sutras (according to others, including BKS Iyengar).
Yogaśāstra (lit. "Yoga treatise") is a 12th-century Sanskrit text by Hemachandra on Śvetāmbara Jainism. [1] [2] It is a treatise on the "rules of conduct for laymen and ascetics", wherein "yoga" means "ratna-traya" (three jewels), i.e. right belief, right knowledge and right conduct for a Sadhaka. [2]
Jayadeva's Guru & father, Shri Yogendra Jayadeva was born to father Yogendra, a renowned yoga guru and mother Sita Devi on 27 April 1929.He completed his Master's degree in Sāmkhya and Yoga from the University of Mumbai in 1952.
The yoga researcher Elliott Goldberg described Yogendra's system of asanas as "safer, more comprehensive, and more effective than Müller's system", [18] and commented that Yogendra "helped strip hatha yoga of .. what he called 'mysticism and inertia'", enabling people to think about asanas "unencumbered by traditional ideology".
Hansa Yogendra (born 8 October 1947) is an Indian yoga guru, author, researcher and TV personality. [1] [2] [3] She is director of The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, founded by her father-in-law Shri Yogendra.
Haribhadra uses the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali to develop his system of Jain meditation and Yoga. He compares Patanjali's system of eightfold yoga with three other systems, a Buddhist Yoga attributed to a certain Bhadanta Bhāskara, Vedanta Yoga system attributed to Bandhu Bhagavaddatta, and Haribhadra's own Jain Yoga system. B.K.S. Iyengar was born into a poor Sri Vaishnava Iyengar family [10] in Bellur, Kolar district, [11] Karnataka, India.He was the 11th of 13 children (10 of whom survived) born to Sri Krishnamachar, a school teacher, and Sheshamma. [12]
His book, Yoga Philosophy of Patanjali with Bhasvati, is considered to be one of the most authentic and authoritative classical Sanskrit commentaries on the Yoga Sutras. [4] [5] [6] Hariharananda is also considered by some as one of the most important thinkers of early twentieth-century Bengal. [7]
