Old Town is an archaeological site in Williamson County, Tennessee near Franklin. The site includes the remnants of a Native American village and mound complex of the Mississippian culture , and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as Old Town Archaeological Site ( 40WM2 ).
Since the late 20th century, however, Franklin has rapidly developed as a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee. Franklin's population has increased more than fivefold since 1980, when its population was 12,407. In 2010, the city had a population of 62,487. Franklin Historic District is a historic district in Franklin, Tennessee that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It was created to preserve historic commercial and residential architecture in a 16-block area of the original, downtown Franklin around the north, west, and south of the town square.
It was the site of the last staff meeting of Confederate General John Bell Hood with his staff before the 1864 Battle of Franklin, on battlefield 3 miles (4.8 km) north. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] Confederate Brig. Gen. John H. Kelly died and was buried here, after a smaller, earlier battle.

The Williamson County Courthouse in Franklin, Tennessee is a historic courthouse. It is a contributing building in the Franklin Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The courthouse was built in 1858 and is the third one to serve the county. It is Greek Revival in style and 65 by 90 feet (20 m × 27 m) in plan.
