Cornelius Steenwyck [2] (born Cornelis Jacobsz Steenwijck; March 16, 1626 – November 21, 1684) served two terms as Mayor of New York City, the first from 1668 to 1672 (or 1670, [3]) and the second from 1682 to 1684 (or 1683 [3]).
Cheekwood is a 55-acre (22 ha) historic estate on the western edge of Nashville, Tennessee that houses the Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. Belmont Mansion, also known as Acklen Hall, and originally known as Belle Monte, Belle Mont or Belmont, is a historic mansion located in Nashville, Tennessee.It was built by Joseph and Adelicia Acklen to serve as the center of their 180-acre summer estate in what was then country outside the city, and featured elaborate gardens and a zoo.
Commissioned by 250 Nashville residents in 1908 [2] and named for Andrew Jackson's estate, The Hermitage near Nashville, [3] the hotel opened in 1910. [4] It was built in the Beaux-arts style [ 5 ] and is the only remaining example of this style of architecture in a commercial building in Tennessee .
The mansion was built in 1859 for David H. McGavock (1826–1896), a cousin of the McGavocks who owned the Carnton plantation in Franklin, Tennessee, and his wife William "Willie" Elizabeth Harding (1832–1895), whose family owned the Belle Meade Plantation.
