Upon release, the film received mixed reviews but was commercially successful. It was dubbed in Hindi as Raja Saheb Ka Kamra and in Tamil as Mudinja Vaazhu. A sequel entitled Raju Gari Gadhi 2 was released in October 2017, while a second sequel Raju Gari Gadhi 3 was released in 2019, all of which are part of the Raju Gari Gadhi film series.
The 2003 Hindi movie Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan had a similar storyline.
