Malabar Farm Inn is a historic stagecoach inn built in 1820. The two-story brick building was restored as a restaurant, offering home-cooked dining. The Malabar Inn Restaurant has operated sporadically in recent years, having closed in 2018, re-opened in 2021, and closed in July 2023.
Maple syrup is typically made from the sap of maple trees such as the sugar maple, the red maple and the black maple. Maple trees are plentiful in the Chardon area, and several trees are located on the Chardon Square where the festival takes place. The celebration of maple syrup begins on Tappin' Sunday, which occurs on the second Sunday in March.

Sugar Grove was named for a grove of sugar maple near the original town site. [4] In May 2012, Sugar Grove hosted the inaugural Dude's Weekend celebration. In July 2013 the 2nd annual Dude's Weekend was held in Sugar Grove. Both were attended by Josiah Ryan.
Gideon Hart and family moved from Connecticut to Ohio in 1816 to take advantage of the land tract of 380 acres. The original tract went from the current land east as far as the current Hoover Reservoir. Hart was a prominent man who built multiple sawmills (due to fire destruction), orchards, farming and a sugar maple stand.
