Leslie Edward Claypool (born September 29, 1963) is an American rock musician. He is the founder, lead singer, bassist, and primary songwriter of the band Primus.Listed as one of the greatest bassists of all time by Rolling Stone, [2] his playing style mixes tapping, flamenco-like strumming, whammy bar bends, and slapping.
The video reflects Claypool's concern over the conservation status of pachyderms. [8] He and Raub Shapiro co-directed the video. Shapiro had previously produced the video for "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver". Claypool initially worked on storyboards for the video but moved on to foam sculptures when he found that medium easier to express his ideas.
Between Primus shows, Claypool created a new solo project called Les Claypool's Fancy Band which, like other projects, occasionally used Primus songs. Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People is a career-spanning retrospective DVD plus bonus EP by American band Primus, released on October 7, 2003.The title was inspired by a crayon-made story book written by guitarist Larry LaLonde's son, [2] and the cover depicts a sculpture made by long-time Primus collaborator Lance "Link" Montoya.
The album's lead single "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" is known for its intricate bassline that Les Claypool played on a fretless six-string bass using the tapping technique. It also contains a sample from the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 in which the character Chop Top exclaims "Dog will hunt!"
