Maharashtra Day is commonly associated with parades and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history and traditions of Maharashtra. It is celebrated to commemorate the creation of a Marathi-speaking state of Maharashtra.
However, in due course of time, due to the fanfare celebrations of Maharashtra Day and Labour Day; both being observed on 1 May, the Marathi Official Language Day celebrations had reduced and also being ignored by government bodies. On 10 April 1977, the government issued another circular about reminder of this day and its observances.
