Terence Michael Joseph "Geezer" Butler (born 17 July 1949) [1] is a retired English musician, best known as the bassist and primary lyricist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. He has also recorded and performed with Heaven & Hell , GZR , Ozzy Osbourne , and Deadland Ritual .
GZR was an American heavy metal band founded by and named after Black Sabbath bassist/lyricist Geezer Butler. The band has been marketed with three different names on different releases, g//z/r in 1995, geezer in 1997, and GZR in 2005. Most fans refer to the band as "geezer", although Butler himself refers to the band name as "gee-zed-R".
Formed in September 1968 under the initial name Earth, the group's first lineup included lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. They changed their name to Black Sabbath in August 1969 and the lineup remained stable until April 1979, when Osbourne was fired.

The Geezer Butler Band was a solo band led by Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. Butler formed the short-lived group in 1984 after leaving Black Sabbath for the first time. [ 1 ] Though Butler wrote some songs intended for the project, the group did not record or release any material.
Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath on 27 April 1979, primarily due to his problems with alcohol and drug abuse. [1] The vocalist subsequently rehearsed with a range of musicians in an attempt to form his own band, including guitarists Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy and George Lynch of Dokken, [2] [3] bassist Dana Strum, [4] and drummers Dixie Lee of Lone Star and Dave Potts of Praying Mantis.
