In 1830, the German Theological Seminary of the Ohio Synod, later known as the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary (ELTS), was founded to meet the need for educating pastors in the Ohio region. It generally used the German language in its education and materials for its first few decades.
Reflecting the German origins of its founder and its service to the German-speaking community, the seminary high school and college held almost all classes in German until more non-German speaking students entered. The first official college commencement occurred in June 1953; the college and recreation buildings were dedicated in 1958. [10]
A 2007 study by U.S. News & World Report ranked the high school branch of Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center amongst the top high schools in the United States. [3] The school was one of the 405 high schools to win a silver medal, ranking it below the 100 schools that won a gold medal and above the 1,086 schools that won a bronze medal.
