This is a list of all the genera in the botanical family Arecaceae, the palm family, arranged by tribes and subtribes within the family. [1] Genera Palmarum (2008) lists 183 genera. [2] Lanonia, Saribus, and the monotypic genera Jailoloa, Wallaceodoxa, Manjekia, [3] and Sabinaria, which were described after 2008, have also been included below.
The Adonidia palm, sometimes described as the "mini-royal-palm", adapts well to landscaping and cultivation, as well as growing in pots. It is able to withstand large amounts of rainfall and can tolerate short droughts, though it does not like sea salt. Adonidias prefer full sun but can withstand partial shade.
Socratea exorrhiza, the walking palm or cashapona, is a palm native to rainforests in tropical Central and South America. It can grow to 25 metres in height, with a stem diameter of up to 16 cm, [1] but is more typically 15–20 m tall and 12 cm in diameter. [2] It has unusual stilt roots, the function of which has been debated.
Hyphaene thebaica, with common names doum palm (Ar: دوم) and gingerbread tree (also mistakenly doom palm), is a type of palm tree with edible oval fruit. It is a native to the Arabian Peninsula and also to the northern half and western part of Africa [ 2 ] where it is widely distributed and tends to grow in places where groundwater is present.
Fibers from the opened leaves are used to make mats, while less robust fibers from the immature leaves are used for basketry. [14] Much of the time, the fiber is harvested by cutting the fronds from the trees. Sometimes, though, the trees are cut down, a more destructive practice. [15]
Arenga pinnata (syn. Arenga saccharifera) is an economically important feather palm native to tropical Asia, from eastern India east to Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines in the east. [1] Common names include sugar palm, areng palm (also aren palm or arengga palm), black sugar palm, and kaong palm, among other names. [2] [3]

Coccothrinax argentata is native to Florida in the southeastern United States, southeast Mexico, Colombia, and parts of the Caribbean, where it is found in the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Hispaniola (in the Dominican Republic), the southwest Caribbean, including the Colombian Caribbean islands, [8] the Honduran Bay Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
