In 1887, Myers School was built and in 1902 a two-story wooden addition was added. As early as 1900, references were made to Myers School as Fort Myers High School, and in 1902 the school was dignified by being called the Lee County High School. The school was a disgrace to the community and severely overcrowded as enrollment passed 300 in 1908.
