So my AK-12 kit is starting to show up (it was sent in seven different packages) and something that has really bugged me about the coverage on the rifle is that there are no real details on it beyond generic info.

AK-12 barrels have different dimensions than AK-74 barrels and lack specific features like the journal that interacts with the AK-12 handguard to prevent it from flexing excessively and the shoulder for the barrel mounted sling swivel. Also, it will have the slots/cuts for a handguard retainer which the AK-12 lacks.

Kit building is for the "AK Purist" these days, way too expensive for the average AK Guy, especially those just getting into AK's. I hate to say it Guys, AR's are easy to build, Parts Kits are CHEAP to buy. Now don't get me wrong, I was a Die Hard AR Guy since the 1970's. However I sold all my AR's and only have AK's.

From what I have been able to deduce “from my research” I have heard that at the very least AK74s are pretty much done, there are still kits out there but price is getting to be $$$. There may be more AK47, AKM, RPK kits coming in from time to time but I don’t know the situation on that for sure.

Bought my first Bulgarian kit from ORF in 2007. I always wonder how many Bulgarian examples were produced. Constantly studying spots welds, mag well dimple shapes, center support rivet heads and selector markings for the last 12 years... BTW - Keep your BFH away from my AK! WTB Late East German 7.62 top cover and gas tube numbered 687.
