Vaccinium darrowii is an evergreen shrub growing 30–120 cm (0.98–3.94 ft) tall, with small, simple ovoid-acute leaves 10–15 mm long and in non hybrid forms are a light blue-green color on the base of the plant and a light pink color at the tips of the branches. The flowers are white, bell-shaped, 4–8 mm long.
Vaccinium myrsinites is likely a hybrid of two other blueberry species, small cluster blueberry and Darrow's evergreen blueberry. Individuals may resemble one or the other parent species; the "darrowoid" phase is more common in coastal Florida, while the "tenneloid" phase can be found in southern Georgia and northern Florida.

The fruits of many species are eaten by humans and some are of commercial importance, including the cranberry, blueberry, bilberry (whortleberry), lingonberry (cowberry), and huckleberry.
The plant has shallow, radiating roots topped by a bush growing from an underground stem. The berries are small and round, 5–10 millimetres (1 ⁄ 4 – 3 ⁄ 8 inch) in diameter, and look like large dark lowbush blueberries. [citation needed]
Vaccinium uliginosum is a small deciduous shrub growing to 10–75 centimetres (4– 29 + 1 ⁄ 2 inches) tall, rarely 1 metre (3 + 1 ⁄ 2 feet) tall, with brown stems (unlike the green stems of the closely related bilberry).
