The St. Olaf Band. The St. Olaf Band an ensemble of approximately 90 musicians, is the touring concert band of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, United States.The band was founded in 1891, and holds the honor of being the first music organization established at St. Olaf. [1] F. Melius Christiansen assumed leadership of the band in 1903.
The St. Olaf Choir is a premier a cappella choir based in Northfield, Minnesota. Founded in 1912 by Norwegian immigrant F. Melius Christiansen , the choir has been influential to other church and college choirs for its performance of unaccompanied sacred music. [ 1 ]
In 2002, the State of Minnesota ordered the condemnation of the choir's land to construct a highway overpass. Rehearsals and activities were temporarily held inside a local church building until the choir purchased a facility near St. Francis, Minnesota. Through time, the choir grew large enough for the organization to hire Aaron Carpenter.

Following a performance at an ACDA national convention with the California Choral Company in 1991, Dehning was asked by Morten Lauridsen, famed choral composer and Professor of composition at the University of Southern California, to audition for the position of Chair of Choral Music at USC. He accepted the position and went there in 1992.
